Later on Day +11

Quick post-rounds update: The attending onc who's on rounds now feels that we can shoot for getting me out of here somewhere around Wednesday/Thursday. Yay! They're phasing me off some of my stuff now, reducing the amount of fluids they're giving me and also cutting out a couple of the antibiotics. They'll watch my dependence on my PSA (morphine pump) and will be looking for reduced use. In order to get out of here, they're going to want to see that I can eat and drink adequately on my own, that pain and fevers are not an issue, and that my counts continue to rise so I can fight infection and all kinds of other good stuff.

The major hurtles now are the eating and drinking. They say that my mouth and throat are looking a little better, but I'm definitely still on an all liquid diet. Even oatmeal is too much for me now.....but not for long!! I predict that tomorrow I'll feel much better than today, and that an upward trend will just continue!

Man, I'm so excited! I am completely comfortable with a Wednesday/Thursday timeframe. I feel like I'll need that time to progress further, and that it will arrive before I know it!

Yay!

Sarah, this news is just FANTASTIC!!!! I can't tell you how excited I am to hear you are really starting to feel better, despite the persistent mouth/throat problems. Keep working at it, at a slow pace, and you'll be home before you know it. I can really tell by the way you're talking in your updates that you have turned the corner and are really starting to feel more like your ole' self again. No more fevers, no more fevers...

Love,
Skye

HI Sarah,
Jeez...your whites are excellent!! They are higher than mine are now....over +110 days post transplant. My ANC is still only 1100....though during my transplant my Hemoglobin stayed above transfusion levels...I did need some platelets once. Just shows how every body reacts differently.
It sure does look like you are on your way up fast....I am very excited for you. I know you will be on a high the day you get to go home!!!
I am sorry that Lorraine is sick & can't be with you....this would be tough on both of you. It does sound like you have a great bunch of nurses to keep you company, so you won't be too lonely.....it appears that your hospital room has turned into a casino with all the betting going on.:) I'll throw in my best guess at 2.5 for your WBC tomorrow.!!!!
Keep you the great work!
Love Angie

Hey babe.

Did you ever think you'd be ASPIRING to eat oatmeal? ;-)

Good news about cancer is it gives us some serious practice time for being OLD.

Truly, gal, so glad to see you're on the mend. We miss you BIG TIME on the board and look forward to your continuing progress.

Love you,

Mary

Fabulous news, Sarah!! You are such a trooper and yes, you should be proud of yourself!!
There is no place like home and I think you'll find a new appreciation for every little thing around you -- it trully feels like a re-birth in the best sense of it!
